My Personal Journey with Health and Wellness

After running a full marathon!! Colin, me, my dad, my brother
Does anyone really care?  I mean I don't know but I'm just a normal mom trying to do all the things and feel good about myself at the same time.  I don't always eat the right things, I'm not always the best mom or wife, but this is me trying.

I have always been relatively active.  Ran some half marathons and did a full marathon a month before our wedding.  When I got pregnant with the twins my heart rate just shot up anytime I did more than just a fast walk so thats pretty much that.  And you know before you have your first child and you think of it a certain way and then ITS NOT? I thought, "oh, I'll be able to set her there and set him there and be able to run on the treadmill or something.  WRONG.  Haha.  Oh man was I wrong.  I was just pacing around with babies all day trying to keep them both content.  Working out was not happening.  But even worse, my eating was at an all time low.  Literally.  I barely ate or drank anything.  I was just literally trying to keep these babies alive.
Fast forward a year and A half later and I was pregnant.  SO you can imagine how that went.  I did buy a triple stroller when she was born and went jogging with all of them to the park a lot.  And that was amazing for me.  Still I actually had never learned what I needed to eat in order to fuel my body.
Then we moved and a friend had mentioned this boot camp type gym that she was going to try; so after some thought I decided to join.  Edge Body Bootcamp.  I absolutely loved it and within 4 months was probably in the best shape I had ever been in.  And then guess what? I got pregnant.  HA! I made the decision to stay at the gym and see if I could handle it while growing a baby.  At this time my good friend from the gym wanted to sign up to do a 12 week private nutrition coaching and I was just finishing up the dreaded first trimester and felt like I still couldn't eat anything.  But I knew I needed it.  I had always wanted to eat better, and definitely wasn't an "unhealthy" eater but really didn't know how to fuel my body.  I learned so much.  It was really life changing.  They calculated my macros and I was on a meal plan.  It wasn't a diet at all.  They knew I was growing a baby so my macros were adjusted accordingly.  That was now over 2 years ago and I eat so differently now.  One huge thing for me was  that I was not getting near enough protein in a day.  I mean my macros were WAY off.  I had sooooo many carbs and fat and little protein.  This means I wasn't feeling satisfied after meals and wasn't fueling my body appropriately.  Game changer.  I think I had a better pregnancy because of the working out and eating right.
After I had the baby I made it a point to continue to eat, ha, and start working out as soon as I could.  My doctor okayed it after 3 1/2 weeks to go back to the gym.  I had to modify most things and started going 2-3 days a week.  For lunch I wouldn't just have a sandwich with chips, I would make sure I got my healthy carb, protein and fat.  I didn't track any numbers, but after doing it for 12 weeks you kind of have an idea of what your doing.
The same week I went back to the gym I got my colors done.  Talk about more motivation for myself to just feel good and be healthy and put myself as a priority too. This is not to say that there were not struggles.  Oh there were struggles, daily.  I was home with 4 kids every day trying to do my best.   I didn't like how long it was taking my body to lose some of the baby weight.  I was struggling with some of the workouts. I was struggling with all of the kids.  But hey, I persisted.
first day going back to the gym the cosecutive months out. I know I was wearing a lot of black.  NO MORE.
That baby of mine is 21 months old now.  The sweet gym owner, Missy, is the sweetest and let me borrow some equipment during this quarantine and posts the workout everyday.  I only get to it like 3-4 days a week and I'm okay with that.  I eat wayyyyyy better than I used to. I'm wearing my right colors and style, trying to be a good mom.  I don't have it all figured out and never will.  I have been learning to trust God with the rest.  Thanks for reading!!

With love,
Ashley
